Skill Development Programmes

‘Talent is innate, but skills are acquired’ The realization on the importance of skill development, especially for students who are scanning the job market, is expected to bridge the gap between education and employment.Taking into consideration the current education and job scenario, appropriate job-related skills complement management discipline and increases career opportunities. The job industry too expects the prospective workforce to come prepared. We have an academic-centric education model, which lays less emphasis on job skills and overall development of an individual. This is why increasing number of students are opting to enhance their hard and soft skills, to meet the industry need.

Mentoring

DiST, School of Management mentoring program started in the year 2012.A faculty member is allotted to a group of students. A face to face interaction with the mentor and mentee takes place. Even though there exists no hard and fast rule the mentees can meet mentors at their own convenient time. It was during Renaissance 2018-academic retreat the faculty members decided to keep a separate mentoring register and college management decided to implement it for the whole college. Faculty members are approachable and help in advancing the academic and professional goals through sharing guidance, experience and expertise.

Remedial Coaching

The system of remedial teaching is practiced to make up the deficiency of slow learners especially from the disadvantaged group. Slow learners are identified and picked with the help of internal exams, mentoring and through parent teacher interaction. The extra intelligent students of the class are advised to assist their less privileged class mates. Specialized learning groups (SLG’s) are also established with fast learners, slow learners and average learners. The cooperation of the parents is sought for conducting remedial classes on holidays for weak students. The progress of the students is evaluated on the basis of written examination and viva.

Internships

An internship as a management student will allow to apply the skills and lessons learned in a classroom in the real world of business. A summer internship with a large firm will give you practical work experience in your field of interest. An internship with a good firm will add great value to your resume and will give you an edge at the time job placement. Companies desire pass-outs who are not only technically sound but are organized, team players and with sound communication skills. Apart from offering hands-on-training to students on topics they have learnt in the class, internship offers valuable training on soft skills, office ethics and the ability to think critically and rationally.

Industrial Visits

Learning from textbooks, lectures and other study material does not suffice for holistic learning. Practical, hands-on learning is essential for better understanding of work processes and business functions. School of management organize industrial visit to its students, with an aim to go beyond academics. It provides students with an opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices. It gives them exposure to current work practices as opposed to possibly theoretical knowledge being taught at college. Industrial visits provide an excellent opportunity to interact with industries and know more about industrial environment. Industrial visits are arranged by colleges to students with an objective of providing students functional opportunity in different sectors like IT, Manufacturing and services, finance and marketing. Industrial visit helps to combine theoretical knowledge with industrial knowledge.
