The School of Computer Science of De Paul Institute of Science and Technology conducted a National Seminar entitled "Advanced Trends in Web Portals and Security" in association with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) from the 18th September 2008 to 20th September 2008. The National Seminar included Ten Lecture Sessions and many Paper Presentations. Total of 39 delegates participated in the seminar.

The seminar started with the registration at 9 AM on the 18th Sept, 2008 followed by the inaugural function. The function was inaugurated by Mr. A C K Nair, Director, Cochin International Air Port LTD. The function was presided by Superior General of Vincentian Congregation, Rev, Dr. Varghese Puthussery V C. Dr. K Poulose Jacob, Dean & Director, School of Computer Science, Cochin University of Science & Technology (CUSAT), Delivered the Key Note speech on the topic "Web Thoughts" followed by three lecture sessions and paper presentations. The first lecture session was taken by Ms. Mini U, Systems Manager in Cochin University of Science & Technology (CUSAT) on the topic "Social Web to Semantic Web". The afternoon session started with the lecture of Dr. Sunny Kuriakose A, Reader, Department of Mathematics, U.C.College, Alwaye on the topic "Fuzzy Logic Applications in Network Security". Mr. P C Vaidyanathan, Project Manager, COGNIZANT, Coimbatore took the third session on the topic "Web Portals and Securities"  followed by paper presentations. The 1^st day was concluded with the vibrant Cultural Programs of the De Paul students.

The second day programs started at 9 AM with paper presentations followed by three lecture sessions. The first sessions was taken by Mr. Jacob Thaliyan, Course Coordinator, School of Computer Science, De Paul Institute of Science and Technology on the topic "Web Portals". Dr. P S Sathidevi, Professor, Dept. of Electronics & Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology,  Calicut handled the topic "Cryptography and Secure Communication" in the next lecture session followed by Mr. Balachandran K P, Asst Professor, School of Computer Science, MES College, Kuttipuram lectured on the topic "Data Mining and Web Mining". The day 2 programs were concluded by 4:30 PM.

The third day  program started at 9 AM with the lecture session of Dr. V Biju, Department of Physics, University of Kerala, Thiruvanathapuram on the topic "Fascinating World of Nano Materials". Dr. T Thrivikraman, Retd. Professor, Department of Mathematics, CUSAT took the second session on the topic "Boolean Algebra". The third session was taken by Dr. S Sasikumaran, Professor (Computer Science) & Chairman, Computer Engineering Department, Faculty of Computer Science, King Khalid University, Ministry of Higher Education, Saudi Arabia on the topic "Real Time Embedded System". Mr. Manu Zacharia, Instructor for Asia's Largest Ethical Hacking and Information Security course - AFCEH and Chief architect - Matriux (www.matriux .com) - An Open Source, next generation Security Operating System took the last lecture session of the event on the topic "Web Security from an Ethical Hackers Perspective".

The National Seminar 2008 came to an end with the Valedictory function which started at 3 PM. Justice Mr Kurian Joseph, Hon. High Court Judge of Kerala inaugurated the Valedictory function and enlightened the occasion with his valedictory address. The meeting was presided over by Very. Rev. Fr. Thomas Njarackal V C, Asst. Provincial Superior & Counselor for Education and Media. Mr. Rajasekharan K B, General Manager, Cochin Shipyard released the seminar proceedings by handing over it to Dr. P Ramakrishnan, Director, School of Computer Science, De Paul Institute of Science and Technology and Convener, National Seminar 2008. Justice Mr. Kurian Joseph, Handed over the Best Paper award to Ms. S. Shridevi, Lecturer, MCA Department, SCMS, Cochin for the paper "Ontologies for Semantic Web Applications".
