Clubs and Associations

Clubs and Associations are platforms where students explore their career, practice their craft, have fun, and socialise at the same time. The School of Commerce is well equipped with active clubs and associations for moulding its students. Every year, office bearers are elected to coordinate various programmes under the auspices of respective clubs and associations.

Club Beta: An Association of Commerce Students


"Being Tested…"

An active and efficacious association Club-Beta has been functioning within the department for many years. The association has an incredible influence on students' personal and professional upliftment. It organises a popular event, La-Foire - a trade fair, every year. La-Foire is a platform where students of commerce can run their business for one day. It enables them to show off their talents in trade, co-ordination, sales, accounting, etc. Club Beta also organises many events such as seminars, debate competitions, quiz competitions, etc.

To build up young professionals from the campus to the competitive world.

Mission

The association offers platform to perform commerce students to be competitive in the modern world as an entrepreneur & manager through group efforts and creative thought.

Objectives

1. To act as a platform for the development of commerce students in curricular and extra-curricular fields.
2. To mould the student especially with co-ordination and managerial skills.
3. To enhance the caliber of students as an entrepreneur.

Policies

1. Every commerce student is a member of Club-Beta by default.
2. There will be a teacher in-charge every year to co-ordinate the activities of Club Beta.
3. Every year, elected students as office bearers will be responsible for the smooth functioning of this association.
4. All members of Club-Beta should abide the Department and College policies.

Report - La-foire ‘24

Club Beta – an Association of Commerce Students inauguration and one day trade fair competition La-foire’24 had conducted on Thursday, 26th September 2024. In this event, students of Commerce Department opened different shops under one umbrella in Tagore Auditorium.8 batches opened 8 different shops. During the planning stage, teachers of the department and the executive members of Club Beta were formed into different committees.

The formal inauguration function of club beta and La Foire were started at 9.45 am with a prayer song by the students of M Com 2024 batch. Mr. Midhun Manoj, President of Club Beta deliver the welcome speech. Rev.Dr. Johny Chacko Mangalath V C, Principal,DiST,inaugurate the event by lighting the lamp and convey his wishes to the students through his inaugural address. He delivered the Oath to newly elected office bearers of Club Beta. Rev. Fr. Joseph Thadathil V C, Vice Principal, DiST extended heartfelt felicitation to Club Beta activities. Ms. Aswathy K R, Association in charge gave an idea about Club Beta and its activities for the current academic year. Formal inauguration function comes to an end by vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Adarsh Baby, Secretary, Club Beta.

After the inauguration the trade fair were started by making the first purchase by Rev. Dr. Johny Chacko Mnagalath V C, Principal, DiST from the stall arranged by B Com F&T ‘22 batch. The trade end by 3.30 pm with a Valedictory Function. Various cultural activities are arranged by the students.

We had an eminent Judging panel with 3 members. They were Dr. Anju Kunjoonj (School of Social work), Dr. Boby Varghese (School of Management) and Mr. Solomon John (School of Professional Development). The students were able to attain a sale of Rs. 115000 (approx). During the valedictory function Rev Fr. Mathew Malieckal VC, Vice Principal, DiST, have distributed the prize money for the winners of La-foire’24. The students of B Com CA 22 batch won the 1st Prize and received a cash price of Rs.4000 & M. Com ’23 batch won the 2nd Prize and received Rs. 2500.

All the teaching and non-teaching staff and students rendered their whole hearted support to make this event a remarkable one.

Intenza – M Com Club


BEING TESTED…

An active club for PG students of Commerce, ‘Intenza’ is also effective in the department, which helps the students get practical learning experience. Every year, Intenza co-ordinates many programmes like work shops, seminars, quiz competitions, new business plan competitions, etc.

Report

Intenza an association of M.Com students was inaugurated by Adv. CMA Sankar P. Panicker, an esteemed advocate and insolvency professional On October 15, 2024 at 9.45 am by lighting the lamp followed by his inaugural speech. Rev Fr Mathew Malieckal, VC and Vice Principal of DiST presided over the function. Ms. Nasla Mol M.A, President of Intenza, delivered a warm welcome note.

After the inauguration, Adv. Panicker conducted a seminar on "Navigating Entrepreneurship with Financial Management," equipping students with vital skills for their future careers. Dr. Anosh Paul, Head of the Department, felicitated Adv. Panicker, expressing gratitude for his invaluable insights. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Regha P. Antony, Faculty Coordinator of Intenza, who acknowledged the efforts of everyone involved in making the event successful.

To foster team spirit and engagement, a treasure hunt was organized, dividing students into five groups. Group No. 4 emerged victorious, showcasing the enthusiasm and collaborative spirit among the participants. This event not only marked the beginning of the academic journey for M.Com students but also laid a strong foundation for their entrepreneurial aspirations. The programme came to an end by 4.00 pm.
