The students and faculty members participate in seminars and workshops to fine tune themselves with the shift in the academia. The department takes initiative to conduct various seminars and workshops to acclimatize themselves.
School of English launched a seminar
series for the academic year 2019-20 on ‘Man, Literature and Environment’. The first
seminar session in the series took place on 11 July 2019 conducted by Mrs. Rahana
Rafeek, freelance conservation wild life photographer, painter and a blogger.
On February 6th and 7th the department organized a Two Day National Seminar as a culmination of the seminar series in association with School of Letters, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Dr. Saji Mathew from School of Letters, MG University, Dr Martin GD, Environmental scientist, Dr. Nandini Lakshmikantha from Manipal University, Dr. Arya P. Vijayaraghavan from Christ University Banglore, Prof. Cheri Jacob K from U C College, Aluva and Dr. CB Sudhakaran Renowned Academician and Critic enriched the sessions with their comprehensive knowledge on the topic.
The School of English of DiST, Angamaly in association with IQAC organized a Five Day National Conference on ‘Margin Enunciates: Language, Culture & Literature’ from 24th to 29th March, 2022. It was hosted on the online platform, Cisco Webex.
The resource person on the first day (24th March) of the National Conference was Dr. Basavaraja Kodagunti, Associate Professor, Central University of Karnataka). The enlightening session by him was on the topic ‘Minor Languages: The Strength of India’ which initiated a lot of positive discussion during the interaction session.
Dr. Upender Maloth, Assistant Professor, SR University, Telengana) delivered an insightful session on the topic ‘Language and Culture: Tribal Struggle for Linguistic and Cultural Recognition in India’ on the second day (25th March) of the National The interaction session followed by the presentation was vibrant and informative.
On the third day (26th March) of the National Conference, the first phase of the paper presentations was conducted. The moderator of the programme was Dr. Sreekala P.S, Associate Professor, Sree Sankara Vidyapeetom College, Perumbavoor, Kerala.
On the fourth day of the National Conference (28th March), Dr. Stenza Augustine (Assistant Professor, Christ College (Autonomous). Irinjalakuda, Kerala delivered a session on the topic ‘History of Resistance in South Indian Films’. The contents of the session and interaction session that followed was a novel experience for everyone involved.
On the fifth and final day (29th March) of the National Conference, second and third phase of the paper presentations were conducted in two sessions. The first session commenced in the morning. The Moderator of the session was Dr. Preethi Nair, Associate Professor, Sree Sankara College, Kalady, Kerala.
The second session of the day and the third phase of the paper presentation commenced in the afternoon. Dr. Chandrika V.N, Associate Professor, Sree Sankara Vidyapeetom College, Perumbavoor, Kerala was the Moderator of the session.
The discussion and comments on the presentations by the Moderator, Dr. Chandrika V.N was followed by the formal conclusion of National Conference.
A total of thirty four selected papers were presented in three different sessions. The National Conference boasted an average of around 200 participants every day. The online certificates of the National conference were sent to the participants and paper presenters to their respective e-mail ids in the following week.
School of English, De Paul Institute of Science and Technology organized an International Webinar on Diasporic Writing: Writing from the Inside Out and Outside In, in association with IQAC on 29th March 2021.The webinar was inaugurated by Rev, Fr. George Pottayil, Director, DiST and Dr.Unny C.J delivered the Principal’s message.
Ms. Fiona Bolger, Poet and PhD scholar, Dublin University Ireland, was the distinguished guest speaker. She spoke admirably about the changes in the field of diasporic writing, especially in South Asian countries.
Original and unpublished research papers from the areas including community Literature of the Indian Diaspora, Migration and Diaspora, Refugeeism and Literature, Queer Literature and Diaspora, Diaspora and Post Colonialism etc. were invited from faculty, students and research scholars. The following selected papers were presented on the second day of the webinar.

2. Sneha Bhattacharjee, Master's Student, St, Xavier’s University, Kolkata, presented paper on From Amy to Duraiamma: How AL Vijay’s 2010 Movie, “Madrasapattinam” narrates the tale of a British woman’s adoption of a new culture and identity.
3. Akshaya VK, Asst, Prof. Fathima Arts and Science College, Moothedam, Malappuram, Kerala presented paper on Diasporic Consciousness in the selected works of Jhumpa Lahiri.
4. Reethu Varna P. Asst.Prof. Gardencity University, Bangalore presented paper on Indian Diaspora.
5. Shilpa Justin, PG Student Baselios College, Kottayam , presented paper on An Insight In to Cultural Ethos In Chithra Divakaruni’s Mrs. Dutta Writes a Letter.
6. Anjitha K.A, PG Student, Christ University Banglore presented paper on Emotional wretchedness and Memories: the spatial and Geographic Connotations in Agha Shahid Ali’s poem Rooms are Never Finished.
7. Adila Firoz, UG student, Naipunya College Pongam, Kerala presented paper on Exploring the Concepts of solitude, solivagant and Revelation through Refugeeism and Migration Literature.
8. Devu Ramesh, PG student, Sree Sankara College, Kalady, Kerala presented paper on Literature of Indian Diaspora: comparison of the Works of Jhumpa Lahiri and Agha Shahid Ali.
9. Priyanka Sharma, Research Scholar, IIS Jaipur, presented paper on Representation of Indian Bride Abroad. Identity in Movies.
10. Pooja Sharma, Research Scholar IIS University, Rajasthan presented paper on Representation of Urban Spaces in Neel Mukherjee’s A Life Apart/ Past Continuous.
11. Dr. Tanupriya and Dr. Anju Singh, Christ University, Delhi, presented paper on Understanding Queer Diaspora through the South Asian Diaspora.
12. Athira Subin and Aneeta Joseph, Guest Faculties, Sree Sankara University, Tirur, kerala presented paper on Diaspora and Music.
13. Anita Kumari, Research Scholar, Central University, Himachal Pradesh, presented paper on Diasporic Migrant Experience in Caryl Philip’s “The Final Passage.”
14. Mary Tomsy, Department of Communicative English, St,Xavier’s college, Aluva, Kerala presented paper on Exploring Diasporic Identities in the Selected Works of Vikram Seth.
15. Nayana N.V Research Scholar, Muslim College, Thiruvithancode, presented paper on African Womanism.
Dr. Sijo Varghese, Associate Professor Sri C. Achutha Menon Government Arts and Science, was the moderator of the webinar. E- Certificates were awarded for the participants and presenters.

Original and unpublished research papers from the areas including community films, Regional myths and cinema, Gendered Cinema, cinema and Body politics, film and trauma were invited from faculty, students and research scholars. The following selected papers were presented.

Mr. Santhosh George Kulangara, the founder and chief explorer of Safari TV conducted a
workshop on Travel Narrative as part of the inauguration of English Association Lite
Vista on 4th September 2019.
On 17th December 2018 the department organized a workshop on "Feature/Creative writing in Journals by Mr Srikanth Kottakkal a senior journalist of Mathrubhumi and Editor in Charge of Mathrubhumi Varanthapathippu. A Feature writing competition followed the workshop and winners were awarded with prizes and certificates. The workshop opened up the various aspects of feature writing and the students were informed of the avenues of publication.
Literaria, a platform to debate on literature is an internal programme aiming at the academic development of both the faculty and students of the department. It provides a first-hand experience in academic writing and presentation and an insight into the emerging literary theories as well.
